Variation in the tumour necrosis factor gene is not associated with susceptibility to COPD.

be associated with the development of T-reg cells and/or tolerance [5, 6]. We found that HSV infection conferred protection against atopy among Finnish children only. Besides the fact that atopy is infrequent in Russian Karelia, the overall exposure to microorganisms is overwhelming and the impact of saprophytes and other pathogens may well override the possible effects of HSV on the Russian side.

Tumour necrosis factor gene polymorphisms are associated with COPD.
Tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha has been shown to be an important factor in animal models of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, human studies of TNF polymorphisms in COPD have been equivocal. Six TNF single nucleotide polymorphisms (-1031C/T, -863C/A, -857C/T, -237G/A, -308G/A and +487G/A) and their haplotypes were investigated in 423 Caucasian smokers (298 patients with ...
متن کاملTumour necrosis factor family genes in a phenotype of COPD associated with emphysema.
Genetic factors are believed to play a role in the individual susceptibility to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Tumour necrosis factor (TNF) family genes have been widely investigated but inconsistent results may lie either in the genetic heterogeneity of populations or in the poor phenotype definition. A genetic study was performed using a narrower phenotype of COPD. The authors ...
متن کاملStromal Cell Derived Factor-1 Genetic Variation at Locus 801 in Patients with Myasthenia Gravis
Background: Myasthenia gravis (MG) is the most common disorder of neuromuscular junction in which autoantibodies develop against nicotinic acetylcholine receptor for unknown reasons. The association of immunomodulator genes with different autoimmune disease has been studied in recent years. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate correlation between a genetic variation in Stromal Ce...
متن کاملTumour necrosis factor-alpha gene promoter polymorphism in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Tumour necrosis factor(TNF)-alpha levels are elevated in airways of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and may contribute to its pathogenesis. A guanine to adenine substitution at position -308 of the TNF-alpha gene promoter (TNF1/2) has been associated with chronic bronchitis of various aetiologies in a Taiwanese population. The authors performed a study investigating a...
متن کاملTumour necrosis factor and lymphotoxin A polymorphisms: a relationship with COPD and its progression?
I n this issue of the European Respiratory Journal, TANAKA et al. [1] present the results of their study on polymorphisms in tumour necrosis factor (TNF) and lymphotoxin A (LTA) in relation to lung function in smokers. They designed two nested case–control studies in the Lung Health Study, originally enrolling almost 6,000 smokers with mild-to-moderate chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COP...
